We believe it to be a huge testament to the project that some of our previous ESS finalists have gone on to be hugely successful and continue to be!

ESS has received applications from start-ups across a wide range of industries, including scientific innovation and technology. AQDOT, after raising significant seed funding in the months after our 2013 final, went on to raise $7.25m and continues to attract interest from investors worldwide. AQDOT‘s cutting edge technology manufactures microcapsules, which allows valuable active products to be protected and released when required. ESS is also committed to social entrepreneurship, and we are proud to present Be My Eyes from our 2013 competition. Be My Eyes is an app that connects blind people with volunteer helpers from around the world via live video chat. This makes everyday tasks, like checking the expiry date of milk, simple again and helps provide blind people that treasure their independence the help they need. With almost 400,000 registered volunteers to 30,000 blind users, this app makes a huge difference in the everyday lives of thousands of people.
